The Northern Michigan University cross country team is set to compete at the Lucian Rosa Invite in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Saturday, September 28. The Wildcats will participate in the 6K race hosted by the University of Wisconsin Parkside, starting at 11 a.m. ET.

Head Coach Jenny Ryan commented on the upcoming event: "It's always a solid race, it's a great course, so this will be a great opportunity to run as a group and as a team, which makes a difference."

In their previous outing at the Roy Griak meet, NMU placed 8th out of 24 teams. Madi Szymanski led the Wildcats with a time of 23:41.0, securing 20th place. Dani Van Lente followed in 26th place with a time of 24:00.5. Gianna Hoving and Lamar Gordon also finished in the top 50, while Skylar Grubb and Celia Wallace made it into the top 100.

Szymanski is expected to be a key performer this season after notable achievements last year, including an 8th place finish at the GLIAC Championships and representing NMU at the National Championships. Other significant contributors include Gianna Hoving and senior Skylar Grubb.

The team consists of several returning athletes along with new additions, including nine freshmen and one transfer student. Most team members hail from Michigan, with others from Wisconsin and Minnesota.

The Wildcats last competed in the Lucian Rosa Invite during the 2022 season, finishing 8th out of 13 teams. Madison Malon placed within the top 20 during that event.
