The City of Traverse City is initiating a community-driven Strategic Action Plan aimed at guiding the city's development through 2030. This initiative, running from October 2024 to May 2025, seeks to create a comprehensive and sustainable plan for future city programs and investments.
The planning process will be inclusive and transparent, focusing on extensive research and community engagement to identify current and future needs. City Manager Liz Vogel emphasized the collaborative nature of the project, stating, "We're thrilled to begin this journey, collaborating with our community to develop clear, actionable strategies for the City’s future. I look forward to working alongside our residents and City leadership to prioritize the goals that will shape the path ahead."
Key elements of the planning process include communication strategies, community partner interviews, workshops, surveys, stakeholder roundtable sessions, focus groups, and the production of a Community Dashboard/Balanced Scorecard. The final Strategic Action Plan will be developed with assistance from Future iQ.
The timeline for this initiative spans eight months. It begins in October 2024 and concludes in May 2025 with key milestones such as a Situational Assessment Report and a Traverse City Think-Tank Report informing the final plan.
Public participation is encouraged through Think-Tank workshops scheduled for October 8th and 9th at the Governmental Center's Lower Level Cafeteria on Boardman Avenue. These sessions aim to explore emerging trends and potential future scenarios for Traverse City.
