With open seasons for many game animals beginning in September, state Rep. Cam Cavitt shared a guide to hunting season dates in Michigan and resources for hunters seeking information on licenses and regulations.
“Northern Michigan attracts hunters from all across the state and the country,” said Cavitt, R-Cheboygan. “Local residents and visitors alike take part in the thrills and disappointments of hunting, surrounded by our forests, fields, and fresh waters. While putting food on their own tables, sportsmen and women support local businesses in our communities. I can’t think of a better place to hunt than Northern Michigan.”
Cavitt encouraged hunters to review state handbooks about hunting regulations for different kinds of game, available online at Michigan.gov/DNR/managing-resources/laws/regulations.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources provides a mobile app where hunters can purchase and access their hunting licenses. The app also contains regulation handbooks and other resources and can be downloaded from Google Play or the Apple App Store via Michigan.gov/DNR/things-to-do/hunting/huntfishmi. The DNR website, Michigan.gov/DNR, offers additional important information, including a map of public lands where people can hunt.
“These resources will provide the information everyone needs before heading out to hunt,” Cavitt said. “Hunters can get a license, read up on regulations, and find out when to go hunt for deer, ducks, squirrels, and other game animals. I wish everyone in Northern Michigan a successful hunting season.”
