Grand Traverse County recognized network irregularities at 6:06 am on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. The IT Department and County leadership decided to take the County and the City of Traverse City offices' network offline as a precautionary measure.

After an immediate investigation, the incident has been identified as a ransomware attack. The County is collaborating with the Michigan State Police, FBI, and liability providers to understand the situation better and determine what to expect. A transfer of data has not been confirmed at this time. An investigation is currently underway, and appropriate measures are being taken to protect the system.

As a precautionary effort, the County and City networks will remain offline until further notice. For more information about impacted services, visit our Service Impact page.

Grand Traverse County manages the IT network for both the County and the City of Traverse City. For more information on this matter, contact Nate Alger, Grand Traverse County Administrator, at (231) 922-4780 or nalger@gtcountymi.gov.
