State Rep. Cam Cavitt has introduced a resolution urging Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to send Michigan National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border, following a request for assistance from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. Cavitt emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, "The crisis at the southern border has gotten so far out of control that other states now must step in to clean up the federal government’s mess."

Cavitt highlighted that the issue goes beyond national security, describing it as a humanitarian crisis. He pointed out that the Michigan National Guard is well-prepared to handle the influx of individuals crossing the border, saying, "The Michigan National Guard is trained and equipped to help manage the hundreds of thousands of people still flooding over the border."

The representative also noted the support from constituents, stating, "I’ve heard from hundreds of people who want to see Michigan be a part of the solution, there’s no reason we can’t make that a reality."

The border crisis has not only impacted southwest border communities but has also spread its repercussions to states like Michigan. Cavitt mentioned incidents where illegal aliens were arrested for violent crimes within the state, including murder, soliciting sex with a minor, and sexual assault.

The resolution introduced by Rep. Cavitt aligns with the actions taken by at least 19 other states, with some, like Florida, providing additional resources such as drones and watercraft to address the ongoing crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.
