Leland Public School District welcomed 450 students in 2022-23 school year

There were 450 students enrolled in Leland Public School District in the 2022-23 school year, 0.7% less than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50% of them were girls, and 50% were boys.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 81.6% of the Leland Public School District total enrollment.

Leland Public School District covers one school within Leelanau County with its main office in Leland.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
