Hunter Jones claims fourth state title, Benzie Central shines

“BROOKLYN — As he crossed the finish line at the MHSAA cross country state championship at Michigan International Speedway, Benzie Central senior Hunter Jones added his name to several records.

He became only the second lower peninsula competitor to win four individual state titles. His time of 14:46.50 is the second fastest in the history of event. Only three-time Olympian Dathan Ritzenhein's time of 14:10.40 in 2000 is better than Jones' performance in his final cross country meet of the 2022 season.

It helped the Huskies' boys squad earn a seventh-place finish, parallel to the girls team, on Saturday. It was the boys team first first top-10 finish since 2019.”
