Goodfellows 5K run returns as Winterfest moves to Saturday, December 3

If you are into running, walking or just contributing one of the best charities in the community, the Taylor Winterfest Goodfellows 5K Run or Walk has been scheduled for Saturday, December 3 in Heritage Park. It's perfect for you!

The entire Winterfest has been pushed back one week from its traditional spot on Thanksgiving Weekend. Parks & Recreation Department staff made the move in an effort to avoid the conflicts on the holiday weekend, including Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday and the annual Michigan-Ohio State football game.

The run/walk will begin and end at the Sheridan Center Open Air Pavilion and head north before running clockwise around Bzura Parkway. The course will also involve running around the Coan Lake Historical Area.

All proceeds for this event go to the Taylor Goodfellows. Last year, the group helped 81 families, including 193 children. Each child receives gifts tailored to them including clothing, cold weather gear, hygiene items, and toys and crafts that were selected based on their interests and wish list.

Participants in the 5K ran will receive a finisher medal, long-sleeve T-shirt (which can be upgraded to a hoodie), and snacks and treats. Overall, Masters and age group awards will be handed out. The timing will be done by RF Events … and there will be hot cocoa at the finish line. The entry fees are tiered, depending on how quickly you enter. Just click here to register. The earlier you register, the more you save in fees ($25, $30, $35 or $40 per runner).

There is also a free one-mile kids run for ages 14 and under.

Taylor Winterfest Day will also include other activities, including a holiday parade, official lighting of the City’s Christmas Tree and fireworks. Specifics to come.
