Senior basketball stars get one more chance to shine at Summer Classic

Senior basketball stars get one more chance to shine at Summer Classic-

Congratulations to our very own Nate Childers for winning the 3pt contest and the All-Star game MVP as his team rolled to an 80-55 victory in the Inaugural Record Eagle Basketball Senior All-Star Game.

Congrats Nate, and GO BENZIE!

"TRAVERSE CITY -- The Traverse City Record Eagle followed up the success they've had with their Summer Classic baseball and softball games by creating a new event for high school basketball seniors.

On Wednesday several dozen graduating seniors took part in the hardwood Summer Classic with two all-star games, two three-point shootout contests and a dunk contest.

In the girls all-star game Team National defeated Team American 50-46 with Charlevoix's Taylor Petroskey taking home MVP honors.

In the boys game it was the National team getting the sweep with an 80-55 as Benzie Central's Nate Childers took home the MVP.

Childers also won the three-point contest on the boys side holding off Mesick's Connor Simmer and TC Christian's Brock Broderick in the finals. In the girls shootout Glen Lake's Grace Bradford sizzled in the finals with 20 points overcoming a great first round from Elk Rapid's Logan Reasoner.

In the dunk contest it was Petoskey's Brady Ewing, Cadillac's Cole Jenema and Charlevoix's Evan Solomon in the finals. Ewing took the title home from there after a tiebreaker."
