DOUGLAS BEACH
Notice of Parking Lot Temporary Closure
The City of Douglas has contracted with a vendor to complete parking lot maintenance activities at Douglas Beach. The work is anticipated to be on Friday, May 13 and will require full closure of the Douglas Beach parking area. While we anticipate them starting early in the morning, the parking lot will be closed for 24 hours to allow for the sealing to cure. The Douglas Department of Public Works will open the parking lot at approximately 7:00 am on Saturday morning. We don’t anticipate any detours, however, there may be periods of time when a street, alley, or driveway is temporarily inaccessible by maintenance activities.
The scope of the maintenance work for the Douglas Beach parking lot will include seal coating and pavement striping. Seal coating is a thin film of heated asphalt liquid that is rolled on the lot surface. Striping will be adjusted from the previous lines to accommodate a van accessible parking space. The beach and restrooms will remain open during this scheduled work.
Maintenance projects are budgeted each year to preserve pavement and to extend its useful life. The goal of the City is to complete maintenance activities prior to Memorial Day weekend.
While closing the parking lot at Douglas Beach is an inconvenience, Friday was the only date available for the contractor. The contractor will do their best to minimize conflicts and provide access. If you have questions, please contact City Hall at 269-857-1438, email Jenny Pearson at douglas@douglasmi.gov, or call the Department of Public Works Director, Matt Vogel at 269-857-2763.
Thank you for your patience.
