Convention of States Action Michigan has issued the following press release:
April 2 was a great day at the Kalkaska Gun Show. The team talked to many participants and vendors and ended the first day (of the 2-day event) with 55 signed petitions!
The general conversation was animated, particularly with the latest governmental actions. We heard many thoughts of why Convention of States is needed, now more than ever. People were clear that they supported the concept of term limits and wanted the states to drive more of the decisions, rather than Washington D.C.
We also heard expressions of pessimism about changing the constitution or of regaining state control. We heard opinions explaining why the convention could become a runaway convention. This opinion is promoted by some political organizations who have a self-interest in retaining the status quo, but easily countered by the truth of what the COS-sponsored convention would do, and the number of states required to approve any proposals.
The attendees sound like most any citizen group: A group prepared to do something positive for change; a group who just don’t know what COS is; and a group of people who have gotten misinformation about a constitutional convention.
One person at a time, we continue to educate and inform our citizens of the truth and the true opportunity to amend the Constitution using Article V to shift control back to the states.
