Monroe Police Department issued the following announcement on Mar 21.
The City of Monroe Police Department wants to introduce to the public, PSO Capt. Daniel Clanton.
Capt. Clanton is originally from Minnesota. From Minnesota, Capt. Clanton made his way to Spring Arbor University where he graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. In 2004, Capt. Clanton enrolled himself into the Wayne County Regional Police Academy and graduated the academy in 2004. In 2017, Capt. Clanton received a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from BGSU.
Prior to becoming a police officer, Capt. Clanton worked as a Kindergarten teacher for a Catholic school in Detroit. During his time as a kindergarten teacher, Capt. Clanton also worked with severely physically and mentally handicapped children at a school in Lansing.
Capt. Clanton participated in a Citizen Ride Along in the City of Monroe with a senior officer at the time and he was instantly drawn to the department. Capt. Clanton in his time with the department has been a Field Training Officer, served as a detective in MANTIS, is a member of the Honor Guard and the fire investigation unit, and was Officer of the Year in 2015.
Capt. Clanton is currently enrolled in "Staff and Command" at Eastern Michigan University. He is currently assigned as a Road Patrol Captain and when asked what he enjoyed most about being a police officer he said "I enjoy serving people in need and caring for those less fortunate and believe I was put on this earth to serve the needs of others."
