Transportation Notice

Schoolbus 1000x667

Boyne City Public Schools issued the following announcement on Nov 23.

Dear Rambler Parents and Students,

Unfortunately, Boyne City Public Schools is seeing the effects of illness in all aspects of our student and staff populations.  We are witnessing both an increase in positive COVID-19 cases and traditional illnesses. We felt it was important to communicate that if this trend continues we may have to make some changes to our normal ways of doing business. Let’s all hope that is not the case.

Specifically, we are very concerned with our ability to transport students.  Recent illnesses in our transportation department have left us vulnerable to a staffing shortage.  If we are short-staffed we may have to “double-up” on certain bus routes,  which could delay pick-up and drop-off times by approximately 20 minutes.

In an ideal scenario, we would know the night before and use PowerSchool to text/email parents who are affected by the changed routes.  As you know, sometimes illness comes at inconvenient times making advanced notice of this situation impossible.  In these cases of limited notice, we will text parents as quickly as possible to notify parents of the change. Parents who need to stay on schedule can certainly drive their students to school.  If you make that choice, please call the Transporation Department at (231) 439-8245, so we can plan accordingly.

Additionally, we may be forced to make some changes in the way we offer after-school transportation for athletics and other extra-curricular activities.  Our staffing shortage may lead to our need to have parents drive students to and/or from events.  While this is not ideal, it could become a reality in limited circumstances.  Our athletic director and coaches will communicate with parents in those situations.

An important step you can take is to make sure your information in Powerschool is current.  If you want a timely phone call or text from school, your information must be accurate. Please contact your student's main office to update your information if there are changes from the start of the school year.  Also, be sure that you communicate with the adult in charge of your children at pick-up and drop-off times if that person does not receive communications from the school.

Thank you in advance for your patience as we work through these challenging situations.
