Benzie County Central Schools issued the following announcement on Nov 24.

Benzie Central’s Hunter Jones Continues to Make History

"Benzie Central junior Hunter Jones made history at the MHSAA Division 3 Lower Peninsula cross country finals earlier this month when he captured his third straight individual state championship.

Jones is now one state title away from becoming the first male runner to win four outright MHSAA individual championships.

His time of 15:08.39 was the third fastest time in Division 3 state history. Jones says it’s an incredible feeling to reach another major career milestone and is looking forward to pursuing No. 4.

“All the hard work I’ve been doing, you know, it’s just all part of the process of getting to that final goal of four state championships. And that’s definitely the final goal. It feels amazing, you know, you get a lot of support from everyone. I want to show people in my community and at my school, ‘You can do it’. And I hope our cross country program at Benzie in the future is feeding off what I brought and they are really successful.”

Jones is now training for the Eastbay Midwest Regional in Wisconsin on Saturday where he’ll look to qualify for nationals in California in January."
