Boyne City Public Schools issued the following announcement on Nov 9.
On November 9, 2021, the Health Department of Northwest Michigan issued an amendment to its standing order from August 29, 2021, requiring masking for all students and staff in schools. Simply put, the amendment allows students who are in extracurricular performing arts and athletics to unmask during active participation if the parent/student chooses to participate in COVID-19 testing once per week. If they choose not to participate in the testing process, the student (vaccinated or unvaccinated) will be required to mask at all times.
As we have done for all BCPS students during the past few weeks, students may actually test more frequently at our morning testing center, located at the Boyne City Education Center. Contact your student's main office for more information on this testing process. Students must be pre-registered to test at this location.
For BCPS, this change will go into effect on November 10, 2021. A more specific schedule of testing will be issued directly to affected parents/students via email. Spectators, coaches, and ll others who are inactive during these activities will be required to mask. Referees do not have to mask during games.
The details of this guidance are available on our website at: https://www.boyne.k12.mi.us/District/Portal/bcps-covid-19-dashboard
Overall, I am encouraged by this amended plan from the Health Department. I hope it is the first step along the path to a time of fewer protocols being needed to keep students, families, and staff healthy. Because the COVID-19 virus continues to be active and present in our Rambler community, I encourage parents to continue to monitor the health of their children and communicate with health care professionals if they are at all symptomatic for any illness.
