Boyne City Public Schools issued the following announcement on Oct 13.

The Boyne City Public School Board of Education held a Special Meeting on Sunday, October 10, 2021, where they reluctantly accepted Alison Mellon’s resignation and expressed their gratitude for her expertise in education and her five years of dedicated service to Boyne City Public Schools (BCPS).

The Board then interviewed six candidates for the Board vacancy: John McLeod, Ken Schrader, Jennifer Yelovina, Leslie Neilson, William Arno, and Savannah Hrenko. After two rounds Kenof voting the candidate with the highest tally of votes was Ken Schrader who brings to the Board 19 years of experience serving on the BCPS Board of Education. The members of the Board thanked all the candidates and encouraged them to run in the November 2022 election.

Superintendent Pat Little states, “Having a strong Board of Education is the cornerstone of any successful school system. I encourage citizens to consider serving the Boyne community by running for the Board in November of 2022. Primarily, the Board’s function is to provide high-level guidance to the Superintendent, who in turn leads and manages the district with the support of the administrative team, and all staff.  Members are also two-way communicators: communicating to the district leadership team and to the community when appropriate. The Board finalizes the budget each year, reviews and approves policies, and evaluates the Superintendent when required to do so.”

The following Board members will have seats up for election in November 2022:

- Vice President Kristine Brehm (6-year term)

- Appointed Board Member Ken Schrader (6-year term)

The filing deadline is July 19, 2022 (tentative), no later than 4:00 p.m. at the Charlevoix County Clerk’s Office; 301 State Street Charlevoix, Michigan 49720.
