Board Vacancy Notice

Boyne City Public Schools issued the following announcement on Sept 17.

A vacancy for a seat on the Boyne City Board of Education is now open.  Alison Mellon has resigned her seat effective September 20, 2021.  Per Board Policy 2404, the Board will have 30 days to appoint a resident over the age of 18 to fill the seat until the next regularly scheduled election in November of 2022.  

The appointment will be made at a special Board meeting on October 11, 2021, Board meeting.  During this meeting, the Board will interview all interested candidates.  It is suggested that all interested candidates meet with the Superintendent prior to the meeting to answer any questions candidates may have about being a Board member.  Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest and any supporting documents that may help the Board make a decision on a candidate’s capacity to serve the District as a Board member. 

Letters of interest are due by Wednesday, October 8th.  Email the letter of interest to Tammy Patrick (email: tpatrick@boyne.k12.mi.us)  All materials received will be distributed to Board members for review.

BCPS Board Member Information:

  1. BCPS meets on the 2nd Monday of each month.  In a typical year, Board members also attend special Board meetings and committee meetings totaling approximately 12-16 meetings per year.  Board members are also asked to attend functions with staff or the community at times.
  2. Weekly, Board members receive communication from the Superintendent on important matters.  Board members are asked to review all materials sent to them.
  3. Prior to each board meeting, Board members receive the Board packet, which includes all the documents related to topics within the Board agenda.  Board members are asked to review all materials sent to them and to communicate with the Superintendent about questions prior to the meeting.  This can take up to one hour to review for most Board members. 
  4. Board members receive an official email address from the district so they collaborate on documents with staff and/or other Board members.
