City of Taylor issued the following announcement on Aug 25.
Dave Gorgon, widely known as "Mr. Taylor," is featured in a current edition of Taylor News Break now running on the City's government access channel on Wow and Comcast cable, and is also available on The Video Page of this website.
The show is being cablecast on Comcast and Wow at 11:03 a.m. and 7:33 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays, and again at 10:39 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Gorgon and host Karl Ziomek discuss the current campaign to restart the Taylor Recreation and Sports Hall of Fame. Gorgon has been a noted journalist and photographer in the Downriver area for decades; sits on various commissions and boards; was once appointed to City Council; and also hosts the popular "Heritage Park Photo of the Day" page on Facebook.
Gorgon and Ziomek spend a lot of time during the nearly hourlong segment discussing community members already elected to the HOF, which is like going down memory lane for a lot of residents of the City.
The City of Taylor is seeking nominations for the Taylor Sport and Recreation Hall of Fame through the end of the year. Thirty-nine standouts are enshrined in the HOF, which is housed in the Taylor Sportsplex. After the last class in 2008 was inducted, the HOF went dormant. The City will accept new nominations through the end of 2021. The class would then be announced in honor of the 175th anniversary of the founding of Taylor. A selection committee that will examine the nominations and select the next class. That committee will likely include some current HOFers.
The key is public participation. Do you know someone who deserves being nominated? If you do, it’s time to get to work. To see a brief story on the HOF, guidelines and an application, just click here.
