Alpena Public Schools issued the following announcement on Aug 20.
The start of the 2021-2022 school year will be delayed for Ella White Elementary until Monday, September 13, 2021. Unexpected disruption to the production and delivery of materials due to the impact of COVID-19 has resulted in delayed delivery of construction materials. Therefore, to ensure the safety of our staff and students and to allow appropriate time to properly complete the finishing stages in each classroom a delayed start is necessary. This delay in the beginning of classes will not only allow for the completion of some construction projects inside the building but allow our staff time to prepare their classrooms for the arrival of students.
Expected timeline for the opening of Ella White
August 30-September 3: Projects necessary for the safe opening of the building are completed; building cleaned; class materials (i.e. desks, tables, chairs, books, et.) returned to rooms; Main Office prepared for the start of school
September 7-September 10: Teachers and staff allowed into the building to being preparation for the start of school
September 9: Evening Open House 5pm-6:30pm
September 13: Students return and school begins
