Cost of college went up for resident students at Kirtland Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 4.8 percent for 2018-19 at Kirtland Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Michigan residents paid $5,880 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $270 more than the $5,610 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 38.3 percent more than residents this year, or $8,130. Their price tag was unchanged from $8,130 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Michigan residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 95 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 90 students received grants or scholarships totaling $488,931 and 27 students took out student loans totaling more than $136,078.

Including all undergraduates (1,489), 823 students used grants or scholarships totaling $3.6 million, and 393 students took out $2.3 million in federal student loans.
