Cost of college went up for all students at Alpena Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.2 percent for 2018-19 at Alpena Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Michigan residents paid $6,840 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $210 more than the $6,630 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid the same amount as residents this year, or $6,840. Their price tag grew 3.2 percent from $6,630 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Michigan residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 91 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 197 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.2 million and 84 students took out student loans totaling more than $470,429.

Including all undergraduates (1,429), 1,285 students used grants or scholarships totaling $4.7 million, and 351 students took out $1.8 million in federal student loans.
