Sen. Wayne Schmidt (R-Traverse City) visited Traverse City and helped thank first responders and health care workers there.
During their visit, Schmidt and the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation asked for donations to go toward the foundation to help first responders on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Schmidt's Facebook post.
Several Traverse City firefighters made signs to thank frontline workers in the city, according to the post.
"Thanks for helping express our gratitude!" Schmidt said on Facebook. "Thank you to Jack Lane, John R. Roth and Traverse City Firefighters L646 for the signs to support everyone who is on the frontlines in the fight against COVID-19."
A total of $150 was raised for the foundation when Schmidt visited Traverse City.
The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation is an organization that enhances the quality of life in the five regions the foundation covers, according to their website. The regions it serves are: Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau.
