City of Manistee issued the following announcement on Oct. 17
At Fifth Avenue Beach, the waves reached all the way up to the beach house/concession stand. Water from waves also reached the cul-de-sac at the west end of Fifth Avenue. causing flooded streets. The water reached depths of 3 ft. and was actually flowing back into the marina basin at Harbor Village at the east end of Fourth Avenue. The majority of the water has drained out of this area through the storm sewers. A tremendous amount of debris from Lake Michigan washed up on the beaches and crews are working to remove it. The emergency call station was impacted and we have contractors accessing damage.
At First Street Beach, significant debris washed up on the beaches and boat launch. Additional erosion occurred along the Riverwalk and sections were lifted off their foundations. The damage occurred upstream of the section repaired this summer. The Riverwalk has been closed until assessments and repairs can be completed.
We will provide additional information as we continue assessments
