The Grand Traverse Lighthouse and Leelanau State Park will benefit from a volunteer event later this month.
Hundreds of volunteers from around the state will come to the park and lighthouse this week to help improve the area. This event is organized by the Michigan Cares for Tourism (MC4T) group. MC4T volunteers partner with the tourism industry to perform work on needed projects.
This year's work includes painting, cleaning trails and building a new playground.
The event will take place Monday, Sept. 16 and Tuesday, Sept. 17.
In addition to the work events, there will also be social outings and excursions for volunteers in the area so they can enjoy the park that will benefit from the fruits of their labors.
The volunteer program brings together a network of tourism industry professionals, economic development organizations and state agencies to identify tourist sites in need of improvements.
