State Rep. Cam Cavitt has introduced a bill aimed at re-establishing natural resource advisory boards in Michigan to protect businesses from unnecessary regulations. According to Cavitt, these boards are crucial in determining which rules are essential for environmental protection and which ones may be more harmful than beneficial.

Cavitt, a Republican from Cheboygan, expressed concern about the impact of burdensome regulations on businesses and jobs, stating, “State officials don’t seem to care how many jobs they kill or businesses they close with their burdensome regulations.”

The announcement of the bill is part of a broader economic growth plan proposed by House Republicans to boost Michigan's economy and support its residents and job providers. This plan includes initiatives such as reducing income tax, cutting red tape to create a fair regulatory environment, and increasing accountability in taxpayer-funded economic development projects.

In response to findings from a recent study by Bridge Michigan, Cavitt emphasized the importance of responsible spending of taxpayer dollars, stating, “It’s our responsibility to ensure taxpayer dollars are not sporadically doled out to everyone with a flashy new idea.”

As part of the economic growth strategy, House Republicans outlined various proposals, including ensuring accountability in economic development programs, streamlining regulations to facilitate job creation, measuring the performance of workforce programs, restoring income tax cuts, and reinstating the right-to-work law.

The efforts put forth by Rep. Cavitt and House Republicans aim to promote economic growth, support businesses, and protect taxpayer funds in Michigan.
