State Rep. Cam Cavitt, R-Cheboygan, is hosting an art contest for local high school students. The competition aims to provide students with a platform to showcase their artistic talents and creativity.

The winner of the contest will have a unique opportunity, as mentioned by Cavitt, "The winner will be invited to Lansing to be a legislator for a day." This experience will give the student a glimpse into the world of legislation and governance.

Students participating in the contest are required to create an art piece that reflects the essence of Northeast Michigan. The deadline for all entries is April 1, and the contest is open to high school students in grades 9 through 12 from Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Alpena, Oscoda, and Alcona counties.

While students are encouraged to explore various art forms, it is important to note that "Any art form is accepted, except photography," as specified by the guidelines of the competition.

To submit their entries, participants have the option to either "send a photo of their submission to [email protected]" or "mail their submission to Cavitt’s office, P.O. Box 30014 in Lansing, MI 48909-7514."

This initiative by Rep. Cam Cavitt provides a platform for young artists to express themselves and engage with the community through their art.
