Enrollment at Benzie County Central Schools increased by 0.8% compared to previous school year

There were 1,236 students enrolled in Benzie County Central Schools in the 2022-23 school year, 0.8% more than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 52.1% of them were boys, and 47.9% were girls.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 88.8% of the Benzie County Central Schools total enrollment.

Benzie County Central Schools covers six schools within Benzie County with its main office in Benzonia. Among them, Benzie Central Senior High School recorded the highest enrollment of 348 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
